1. What should I engrave on my medical alert tags?

Well, you should engrave information that could help in case of an emergency and you cannot speak for yourself. I wouldn't engrave too much- just the pertinents.

A general guideline for engraving is to include:

  1. Your name
  2. Your medical condition
  3. Any severe allergies
  4. Any medication that you are taking that can have potentially dangerous interactions
  5. Any medication that should be administered
  6. An emergency phone number
  7. Your Dr’s phone number

2. When will my order ship?

Your order will ship within 2 weeks. Sometimes I ship sooner but you never know, so please allow up to 2 weeks. I custom engrave the medical id’s, hand-make the bracelets and put a lot of care into every product shipped. I really do love to make jewelry and try to make everything perfect before I ship. I'll send you an e-mail when your order ships.

3. What are the shipping charges?

  1. For USA purchases less than $25.00, the shipping charge is priced by USPS. This price is available on checkout.
  2. For USA purchases over $25, the shipping charge is FREE!
  3.
  4. Shipping to Canada, Europe or Australia is calculated upon checkout. International orders are shipped via USPS International Priority. Customs may incur an additional charge.Fiddledee IDs is not liable for this additional fee.

4. How do I know what size to order?

To measure for a medical alert bracelet, here is what I recommend:

Use a measuring tape (or string) to snugly measure your wrist and then add 1 inch. For example, if your wrist measures 6”, your medical id bracelet size is 7”. The extra inch is for comfort and room for the tag. If you find that you need a size not on our chart, simply send an e-mail and I will custom make one for you! No probs.

Be sure to measure carefully as there is a $7.50 return shipping and handling fee. (See resizing details below) Below is a quick sizing chart. This is only a guide; please measure to find your correct size.

2-3 years old 5.5"
4-6 years old 6"
6-7 years old 6.5"
8-12 years old 6.75"
Adult Small 7"
Adult Standard 7.5"
Adult Large 8"
Adult XL 8.5"

5. A Special Note for Children

Necklaces and beaded bracelets are not recommended for very small children, our smallest bracelet size is 5.5”. Beaded bracelets and small parts pose a choking hazard for small children. Necklaces are no good because of the strangulation risk. Check out the cute bag tags, adjustable bracelets, shoe tags and belt loop tags for alternatives.

In addition, be prepared for any medical id tag to scratch. Some children wear their tags for years and others are scratched within the first week. This isn’t a flaw with metal, any metal will scratch if something abrasive rubs across the front. Consider engraving the most important information on the back of the tag, the back is protected against the wrist and less apt to scratch with time.

6. What do I do if my medical alert bracelet doesn’t fit?

Please re-measure your wrist. The proper bracelet size can be found by measuring your wrist at the smallest part. Please add 1” to this number. For example, if your snug measurement is 6”, your bracelet size is 7”.

Please put your bracelet in a padded envelope with proper postage. (Don’t guess on postage!) The mailing address is:

  1. Fiddledee IDs
  2. Po Box 271199
  3. Flower Mound, Texas 75027

Include the below:

  1. A check for $7.50 for return shipping and handling.
  2. A note with your order number or name that the order was placed under. Please add the new size that you need. For example, you can explain that you need a 7” or 8” etc. You could also say to add/remove a ½” etc.

 7. What if my bracelet needs to be repaired?

Fiddledee IDs’ warranty guarantees quality in workmanship under normal use. The warranty does not cover beaded or leather jewelry worn in water or sports. Please remember, our medical id bracelets are not indestructible and should be treated with the same care as other jewelry.

The warranty for jewelry is 3 months from the date the bracelet is shipped. If it’s been less than 3 months, return the bracelet back with a note indicating your name or order number. There is not a fee for bracelets within warranty.

For jewelry over 3 months old, there is a flat $15.00 fee. (International repairs are $27.50 to include shipping) Repairs include restringing and replacement of clasps and can only be completed on bracelets with at least 75% of beads present. I’m unable to repair leather bracelets. Include a check and a note indicating your bracelet size, mailing address, name or order number.

Please put your bracelet in a padded envelope with proper postage. (Don’t guess on postage!) The mailing address is:

  1. Fiddledee IDs
  2. Po Box 271199
  3. Flower Mound, Texas 75027

8. Are the medical tags under warranty?

Unfortunately, medical id tags will scratch if something abrasive rubs across the front. Some customers wear their tags for years and others are scratched within the first week. This isn’t a flaw with metal, any metal will scratch. Consider engraving the most important information on the back of the tag, the back is protected against the wrist and less apt to scratch with time. Folks: the front of tags will scratch and engraving may be hard to read, it's just part and parcel of wearing everyday medical id jewelry.

9. Can I wear my medical alert bracelets while taking a shower or swimming?

Although the beads, charms and clasps are sterling silver, they are strung on jewelry wire. I use the highest quality 49 strand, nylon coated stainless steel jewelry wire but I still don't recommend wearing our products in water. When worn repeatedly in water, the beaded and leather bracelets will break. The stainless steel and sterling silver chains are fine to wear in water, although the sterling will tarnish faster when exposed to chemicals.

10. Will my sterling silver tarnish?

Our sterling silver jewelry is coated with Rhodium to help resist tarnish but tarnish is… a natural phenomenon. It is the result of sulfur in the environment reacting with the metal in jewelry.  All metal, except pure gold and platinum, will eventually tarnish. Heat, humidity and chemicals speed the process. Tarnish can be easily removed with a polishing cloth or sterling silver polish. Since this is a natural process, we do not consider tarnish a defect and will not replace items that just need polishing.

11. What are your return policies?

I hope that you will love your jewelry however if you need to make a return, it will be accepted within 30 days. Any portion of the bracelet that is not custom engraved will be refunded. Engraved ID tags or charms are not refundable. Shipping is also not refundable. Please return to us in padded envelope to: Fiddledee IDs, PO Box 271199, Flower Mound, TX 75027. Include a note indicating your name or order number and your request for a return.

WARNING

Babies and children should not wear necklaces due to the risk of strangulation! Babies and children may also choke on beads or small parts should the jewelry break! Please be sure to use our medical jewelry with care around small children.
